Ruth Gladys Long, 87, went to sleep in death on May 6, 2015 at St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City, CO. She and her twin brother were born on March 11, 1928 in Cameo, Colorado to Thomas and Agnes Hodgson. She graduated from Frederick High School in Frederick, Colorado in 1946. She was united in marriage to Delbert Rex “Shorty” Long on May 11, 1947 in Frederick, Colorado. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1974. Her three brothers, Forrest, Robert “Bob” her twin, and Karl “Rocky” Hodgson all of Canon City and Florence, Colorado also preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, Edna Bayes of Penrose, CO, Allen (Jerri) Long of Washington, and Allyson (Jimmy) Calton of Missouri. She has nine grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. Ruth worked several years for the University of Colorado in different dorms and sororities as a housekeeper. When she and her family moved to Camdenton, Missouri she worked with them at their business called the “Ozark Drive In” in Camdenton. In the 80’s she moved back to Colorado and resided at Royal Gorge Manor in Canon City, CO, until her health caused her to move to Progressive Care Center in Canon City. Ruth was involved in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, and many functions at the Manor. She enjoyed her bingo games at Progressive Care Center and the musical entertainment that they hosed there. She also enjoyed helping everyone and she was known as Mon and Grandma to all. Her family want to give a big Thank You to Progressive Care Center who loved her dearly, to St. Thomas More Hospital for the wonderful loving care in her last days, and to Sangre de Cristo Hospice who was there for help and comfort to her and her family.
