Ruth Evelyn (Shaffer) Snider, 98, passed away May 1, 2022, at University Place in West Lafayette.
She was born October 14, 1923, in Spencerville Ohio to the late Harold W. and Freda (Hanes) Shaffer. She was a graduate of Spencerville High School and attended Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima Ohio. Ruth worked as a secretary for Stolly Insurance Agency, and she also worked at Westinghouse Electric Company during WWII. She was an active member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Spencerville, Ohio where she was married on September 6, 1942, to her high school sweetheart, Paul Snider, who preceded her in death after 75 years of marriage.
After WWII, she was a homemaker in New Orleans, LA; Ada, OH; Beaverdam, OH; Lima, OH; and West Lafayette, IN. While living in Lima, Ruth was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, Vice President of Shawnee Mother’s Study Club and a leader of the Women’s Society Circle.
She also volunteered for several organizations, the Lima Servicemen’s Canteen, Brownie Troop leader and Ohio Eastern Star Chapter 16. Following her move to West Lafayette in 1967, Ruth
became a member of First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the church Thrift Shop. She also volunteered with the Cosmopolitan Club, Purdue Women’s Club, Athletic Department staff wives, several bridge clubs and worked part time in the University Bursar’s office.

(Matt) McCormick of Jeffersonville; 7 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Claire, and Ryan Ford of West Lafayette, and Landon and Cameron Ford of Collierville, TN, and Maxwell and Jordan McCormick of Jeffersonville. Ruth is also survived by sisters-in-law, Betty Snider of Cincinnati, OH and Jane Shaffer of Bradenton, FL.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Freda Reynolds; step-father, Homer Reynolds; father Harold Shaffer; step-mother Mabel Shaffer; brother, Lavern Shaffer; sister-in-law, Norma Shaffer; brother, Donald Shaffer; sister, Lorene Wood; and brother-in-law, husband, C. Franklin Wood.
