Ruth, a gentle soul that affected all who came in contact with her has left this earthly world and is now on a new adventure.
Ruth accomplished many humanitarian acts during her 87 years of living. She came to Deming in 1970, with her husband Allan, they discovered Columbus, decided to stay, and built an adobe home, while living in their Winnebago Motor Home. During this period of time, they met and made many friends while assimilating into the community. As time went by they noticed areas where they could improve the quality of life for their neighbors. Unfortunately, Allan died but Ruth continued to be an active member of the community.
Ruth became involved with the village library, where she held offices as President, Director, and general library board member for over 30+ years. She also served in the Columbus Historical Society where she held the office of Secretary, Treasurer, and Director over many years.
She felt the need to improve her speaking skills, as she was very quiet and reserved. In order to overcome this, she petitioned the International Toastmasters Club and helped form a local chapter in Deming, where over time, she held the offices of President, Treasurer, Delegate and Secretary.
Ruth was a member of the Health Care Foundation, Deming Offices. She served as Vice President, Secretary, and Director.
Ruth was one of the founders of the Luna County Republican Women’s Club having served as President.
She also served as an Assistant Municipal Judge and was elected a Luna County Commissioner representing the third district that included Columbus.
Some later activities that Ruth participated in were the Andrew Sanchez Youth Center where she helped feed the Senior Citizens for many years until it closed in 2014.
Ruth loved opera and classical music and was an avid reader who donated boxes of books to support the Friends of the Columbus Library.
She leaves her brothers, Allen Rosenberg and Edward Ross, and sisters, Elaine Collins and Ina Ripps, who already miss her.
