Ruth Barcus, the daughter of Virgil E. and Florence A. (Clausen) Barcus, was born October 19, 1926 in Newton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton High School in 1945 and a lifelong resident.
Ruth worked for 41 years at Newton Manufacturing as a press operator, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the 25 Club, a group of employees of Newton Manufacturing who worked 25 year or longer, she loved being with her friends. Ruth loved to read and loved birds; she had a bird feeders by the window where she could watch them. When the squirrels started becoming pests at the bird feeders she started feeding the squirrels away from them, later they became friends and she knew one from another.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Donald W. Barcus in Novmber of 1999. Those left to honor her memory are her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Marvin Milligan of Indianola, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Ella June Barcus of Newton; and her nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
