Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

Ruth passed away Wednesday morning, March 31, 2021. She was born October 17, 1950 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Raymond and Maurine (Sears) Backus. She graduated from L C Mohr High School in South Haven, MI. Ruth was a spectacular bartender and spent many years behind the bar. She would often say she was a counselor too, as she had an infectious personality that made everyone want to tell her their life stories. Her most rewarding work came later in life when she spent several years working with special needs children as an aide on a school bus with Kalamazoo Public Schools.

Ruth loved scrapbooking, crafting especially with her youngest granddaughter Kenley, watching comedies, and having Nerf gun wars with her grandson, Dewey. She also loved traveling around to watch Dewey play baseball and basketball. She was a phenomenal cook but she especially liked baking cakes for anyone and everyone. She would make cakes for her doctors, co-workers, friends, for holidays and birthdays virtually everyone she cared about would get a favorite cake. Ruth loved her daughters but she adored her grandchildren, they meant the world to her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Kathy Consolino, of Kalamazoo, MI; Michelle (ID) Williams of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Breana (Sean) Hurley, Jade Taylor both of Las Vegas, NV; Dewey Young of Kalamazoo, MI and Kenley Williams of Las Vegas, NV. Two great-grandchildren Elliott Hurley and Elijah Hurley both of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves her brother, Robert (Pamela) Backus and a special niece Carrie (Kevin) Luteyn both of Kalamazoo, MI.
