Russell Wayne Shumard, of Lafayette, passed away, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Franciscan Health East, Lafayette.
Russell was born March 26, 1943, in Bement, IL., to the late Arthur and Mary (Johnson) Shumard. Russell graduated from Battleground High School and retired after 41 years of working as a machinist at Fairfield Manufacturing. After retiring in 2003, he enjoyed spending quality time with family. Russell married Patricia Phillips on September 21, 1963, in Lafayette. Russell and Patricia were married for 39 years until her death on November 16, 2002. The couple had three children and lived in Lafayette their entire lives. At the time of his death, Russell was engaged to Cindy Fineberg of Indianapolis.
He is survived by his children Chuck (Candy) Shumard of Lafayette, and Bill (Joann) Shumard of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; his four grandchildren, Caitlin (Trevor) Nelson, Cayla (Jacob) Lape, Danielle Shumard, and Samantha Shumard; three great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Charlotte Nelson and Kennedy Lape. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Eugene (Diane), and Roger (Carol) Shumard; 4 sisters, Carolyn Sue Shumard, Jane (Gerald) Slipher, Luann (Bill) Vaughn, and Cathy (Kris) Erickson.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; son, David; a brother, Robert Shumard; and sister, Joann Shumard.
