Russell Leo Schumann, 86, of Deming, New Mexico, passed away June 11, 2016 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Russell was born in Waterloo, Iowa on February 27, 1930, to Elnora and Edwin Schumann. He was an only child.
When Russell graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa he was employed at Matt Parrot and Sons where he worked until his retirement, following the printing trade from hot metal to computer typesetting. During those early years he met the love of his life, Celine. They were married June 30, 1956. Two daughters came of their union, Heidi and Sonia. Russ and family moved to Jesup, Iowa where they lived until they retired to New Mexico.
Russell had many hobbies including woodworking. He made furniture, toys and even his boat. He and Celine loved spending time together. They would travel to history fairs and would show people how an antique rope making machine worked and helped children make their own ropes.
After retirement, Russ and Celine moved to the Deming, New Mexico area where they joined the Florida Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Russ eventually became the chief, an occupation of which he was very proud and dedicated to. Celine and Russell loved their home in New Mexico and worked together to fix it up the way they dreamed. They enjoyed having friends and family come to visit and having dinners for their friends.
Russell is survived by his daughters: Heidi Marquardt (Michael) and son Zachary Childress, Sonia Huppert (Chris) and sons Keenan and Brandon.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his beloved wife Celine.
