Russell Howard Strayer, 88, of Waterville, Ohio and formerly of Liberty Center passed away July 24, 2023. Russell was born on July 20, 1935 in Neapolis, Ohio to the late Howard R. and Frances (Saul) Strayer. He married Judith Williamson in 1987 and she survives.

Russell is survived by his wife Judy; children:  Tim Strayer, Ted (Dianne) Strayer, Jeanette (Ron) Saneholtz, John (Bobby Johnson) Pennell, Amy (Mark Bercaw) Tomlin, Michele (Matt Kerwin) Pennell; grandchildren: Tim (Sandy) Strayer, Amanda Strayer, Hannah (Derek) Aldrich, Ciara (Sam) Fisher, Eric Conklin, Andy Conklin, Shannon (Devon) Downard, Nicholas (Heather Love) Mattoni, Alysia (Cody) Agler, Tyler Schutte, Luke Johnson, Justin (Kayla) Saneholtz; 14 great grandchildren; sister Donna Tiplady; brother Daniel (Betty) Strayer; best friends Terry and Sandy Stites. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Norm Tiplady.

Russell worked as a Process Technologist for Johns Manville for 45 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Lodge 289, a Shriner for over 25 years, and a 32nd Mason. He was a one of the last original members of the Neapolis Fire Department. Russell was a member of Liberty Chapel Church where he served as a trustee, and on the building committee. As a high schooler, he used to delivery coal to the homes in Neapolis with his father. Russell loved to be outdoors whether fishing in Lake Erie, or hunting. His greatest hunting accomplishment was the 10pt. Buck he shot in 2013. He loved to travel and go camping, take care of his yard.  Russell was a hard worker who could fix or build anything and loved to teach others how to do things. No matter where he went, he would know someone and a conversation would ensue even though he was usually a quiet man. Russell was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Liberty Center Football fan.
