Russell E. “Gene” Isenhower, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
Gene was born December 21, 1925, near Newmansville in Cass County, the son of R. L. and Pearl (Pettit) Isenhower. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, to whom he was married October 28, 1978, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
He is also survived by five children, Donnie Isenhower of Hollister, MO, Betty Sharp, Beverly (Gene) Anderson, and Bonnie (Kevin) Gaul, all of Springfield, and Jeanie (Dave) Laughlin of Amarillo, TX; a step daughter, Sandy (Bob) John of Safford, AZ; 10 grandchildren; a step grandson; 10 great grandchildren; a step great grandson; and a great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby Bottens; two brothers, Keith and Ray Isenhower; and a grandson, Don Anderson. Gene was employed at Ashland Farmers Elevator Co. 16 ½ years before coming to Orleans Elevator, a division of Garnac Grain Company, as manager for 21 years. He retired in December of 1990.
He was a member of the Ashland Church of Christ where he formerly served as Sunday School superintendent and as a church officer. He enjoyed dancing, travelling, and, after retirement, he took up woodworking as a hobby. He and his wife spent much time involved with crafting and attending craft shows in Jacksonville and the surrounding area.
