Russell C. Zimmerman, 96, of Freeport formerly of Davis died Friday, December 7, 2012 at the University Hospital in Madison.
Born June 28, 1916 in Rock Run Township he was the son of Oscar E. and Elsie (Keller) Zimmerman. He was a 1934 graduate of Dakota High School. On November 1, 1936 he and Edna Anna Louise Fiene were united in marriage, she preceded him in death on May 24, 2009. For twenty-five years he operated Davis Chickeries until 1968 and then worked at Micro Switch until he retired in 1981. He attended Indian Grove Country Church, Rock City. He was a past mayor of Davis, was a member of the Davis Fire Department and a Charter member of the Rock Run Country Historical Society. Russell was an avid fisherman enjoying many trips to Canada and one to the Artic Circle. He and his wife took many trips researching genealogy.
Surviving are four children Joanne (Jim) Yeoman, Jeanne (Gary) Wells both of Dakota, Joyce (Garry) Leonard of Sandy, Utah and Vaughn (Sally) Zimmerman of Davis; eleven grandchildren Scott (Judy) Yeoman, Kay (Ed) Coryell, Craig (Chris) Yeoman, Valerie (Dave) Goeke, Tom (Marcia) Wells, Mark (Erin Thomm) Wells, Chris (Tina) Wells, Andrea (Dory) Haffelder, Meredith Leonard, Stephanie (Mike) Wirth, Eric (Steffanie) Zimmerman. Twenty-seven great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, step mother Ida (Toelke) Zimmerman, his wife, three sisters Berniece (Kenneth) Slamp, Marcella (George) Reade and one in infancy, sister-in-law Arvilla Fiene and great great granddaughter Brynn Wells.
