It is with great sadness we announce the death of our beloved mother, Ruby Irene (Galpin) McLaughlin.  Ruby returned to the loving arms of God and her first family on Saturday, September 3 at the age of 86.

Born in Shallop Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, Ruby began her life of service working as a civil servant on Ernest Harmon AFB in Stephenville, Newfoundland.  It was there she met her husband of 54 years, Charles (now deceased).  She traveled the globe as a military wife – supporting her husband, raising her five children, and establishing herself as the cornerstone of our family.  After Charles retired, Ruby continued her life of service, now as a Housing Manager for the Department of Defense at several military bases overseas including South Korea and England.  She returned to the US and eventually retired from Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland in 1998.  Even in her retirement, she continued to serve, working with her St. Peter’s By-The-Sea Episcopal Church and the Jacksonville, North Carolina Meals-on-Wheels Program.  No matter where Ruby was in the world, she was active in her family’s life, sharing her love and devotion across the miles.

Ruby is survived by her children, Thomas, David, Ruby Elizabeth (Lisa), Christopher, and Charlene, daughters-in-law and son-in-law, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

“Do not weep for me when I am gone, but rejoice that I have been.”
