Ruben F. Arroyo, a longtime Beacon resident, was called to rest peacefully on June 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Beacon, NY; at the age of 79 years old. He was born January 29, 1943 in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, son of the late Dimas Arroyo and Fructuosa Fuentes. He immigrated to the States at the age of 14, with his parents and brothers, settling in New York; they moved to Beacon in 1969.

  Ruben met the love of his life Crucita Echandy, while standing as best-man for his friend and she was maid of honor for her sister. On November 18, 1973, in Beacon, NY, he married Crucita ‘Cookie’, who survived him at home.

  Ruben worked for the City of Beacon Public Works as a sewer operator, until retiring after 30-years.

  He was a faithful communicant of the St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church Parish in Beacon, where he was active with the Sacred Heart Ministry as a Padrino. He was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 445 of Beacon. Ruben was also an honorary Life Member of the Beacon Engine Co. 1 with 43-years of service, he was also proud to be the 1st Hispanic inducted into the Company.

  Ruben was an avid NY Mets fan; he enjoyed all sports, especially loved watching all his grandchildren & great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

  Along with his beloved wife of 53-years of love at first-sight Cookie, Ruben is survived by his three sons: John (Kathy) Otero, Franklin Otero, and Dimas (Jacqueline) Arroyo; and his special nephew, Jose (Rose) Echandy. He is also survived by brother Raymond (Elba) Arroyo and half-brother Rafael Arroyo; he cherished his 11 grandchildren: Amy (Derek) Decker, Sydelle Otero, Robert (Caitlin) Arroyo, Ryan Otero, Ruben (Makayla) Phinney, Justin Otero, Dimas Arroyo, Franklin (Erika) Borges, Isaac Otero, Stephanie Mendez, Sierra Mendez; and 13 great-grandchildren: Cardelle Rivera and Valentina Vetrano, Angeleah Decker, Brayden, Alexander, Autumn, Brielle and McKenna Arroyo, Temperance Phinney, Kendal and Aliyah Borges, Caius Brown, Salasia and Saliece Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews & dear friends.

  Along with his parents, Ruben was predeceased by his brother Carmelo Arroyo and infant-brother Efrain Arroyo.
