Bishop Arthur J. Freeman, 86, of Bethlehem, entered the nearer presence of his Lord on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. He was the husband of Carole J. (Droney) Freeman, with whom he shared over 29 years of marriage and the late Roseanna (Jacob) Freeman, who died in 1981. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Bins) Freeman. He received his BA from Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin, his BD from Moravian Theological Seminary and his Doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. Rev. Freeman served Moravian Churches in Coopersburg, Center Valley, Bethlehem and from 1953 to 1961 was founding pastor of the Big Oak Moravian Church in Yardley, Pa. In 1961, he was called to become Associate Professor of Biblical Theology, New Testament at Moravian Theological Seminary and was promoted to full professor in 1966. From 1974 to 1994, he was administrator of the Ecumenical Committee for Continuing Education housed at the Seminary. Dr. Freeman was ordained as a Bishop in 1990. Following his retirement, he continued to write and publish both texts and periodicals.
