Royce Thomas, age 39 of Algona, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Royce Anthony Thomas, the son of Roger Lee Jones and Bernadette Thomas, was born on July 8, 1982 in Santa Rosa, California. He graduated from Piner High School in Santa Rosa, California in 2000. Before attending college, Royce was the wrestling coach for Santa Rosa High School. Royce enrolled at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, IA where he wrestled and was a member of the Delta Beta Phi fraternity while obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology with an emphasis in sociology. While attending William Penn, Royce met Danielle “Nellie” in the fall of 2006. Royce worked at Snap-On Tools. He was a member of the Algona Fire Department and Algona Police Department Reserves. Royce was a coach for Bull Pup and Team Train Wrestling. He loved fishing with his children and deep sea fishing in Florida. Royce enjoyed barbecuing, burning hot dogs and siting around the fire pit with friends and family. His children were his whole world. Left to cherish Royce’s memory are his love of his life, Nellie Fowler of Algona; children: Amaury, Anaya and Kazziah all of Algona; mother, Bernadette Thomas of Santa Rosa, CA; twin sister, Rahsheeda Thomas of Santa Rosa, CA; sisters: Sade Jones of Santa Rosa, CA, Rolinda Jones of Sacramento, CA and Nisha Jones of San Jose, CA; brothers: Lemuel Hutchings of Hanford, CA, Marquise Jones of Hanford, CA and Roger Lee of Dallas, TX; Nellie’s immediate and extended family and his extended family including many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Lee Jones and grandmother, Clara Thomas.
