Royce Edward Humpert Sr. age 67, of Dallas, TX passed away March 5, 2014 in Dallas, TX. He was born March 21, 1946 to George Leonard Humpert and Lucy Zihlman Humpert in Jacksboro, TX. He attended school in Windthorst graduating in 1964. He attended Midwestern State University and joined the ROTC to help pay the cost, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science/math in 1968. He enlisted in the Army serving as a 2Lt in 17 ENGR BN “JOHN HENRY” from 1968-1969 in VietNam building bridges and leading at least in 1 convoy. Royce was honorably discharged Aug.24, 1970 as a 1Lt with two bronze stars.

Royce returned to Windthorst then moved to Dallas, TX. He worked briefly at International Harvester and met his beloved wife he always called Sandy. In the summer of 1971 he got a government job working with computers at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. After many long phone calls Southwestern Bell called Royce to ask if there was a need to assist with the payments and trips back to Dallas. Royce and Sandy were married May 27, 1972. It was the best day of my life becoming his wife. He was the best husband, father and man I have ever known and truly a gift to our families and everyone who knew him.

Royce returned to Dallas in July 1979 to work for Camsco on the water jet cutting system. He was a school volunteer, chaperone escorting children to the Dallas Zoo many times. He worked with the boy scouts especially with woodworking projects, camping trips, and helping our sons with their pinewood derby cars. He was instrumental in establishing a charter the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Rita Church. He was so happy the day he walked his daughter, Natalie, down the aisle to marry Nick and his father-daughter dance and we treasure the memory in pictures.

Through his long career Royce worked with computers for numerous companies including; Beta Products, VMX , Visicom Laboratories, Electrospace systems, Raytheon E-Systems and Cisco Systems before retiring and selling insurance.

Royce was a former Grand Knight of St. Ignatius of Loyola Council 11169 and joined the 4th degree in 2000. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Rotary Club.
Royce is survived by his wife, Sandy and children; Royce Edward Humpert Jr. wife Katherine and granddaughter Isabella, daughter Natalie and Nicholas Hull, James Michael Humpert and Eric Thomas Humpert; surviving sisters are Angie Berend, Margie Frazier and sister-in-law Betty Humpert, brothers Wayne “Butch” Humpert and wife Pat and George Humpert and wife Judy and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives, friends, classmates and co-workers. Royce loved you all so much!

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lucy Humpert. brothers Harold and Floyd Humpert, sister Rose Mary Schroeder, brothers-in-law William “Bill” Berend, Lawrence J. Schroeder and John A. Frazier Sr.
