Royal William “Roy” Savoy, age 86, of Rome, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 at Bethany Gardens, with his loving family at his side. Roy was born in Otter Lake on September 12, 1926 to William and Clara Beor Savoy. He attended Holland Patent Schools.
Roy was united in marriage to Kathryn Hamas. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943, served in the Pacific Theater, and survived the battle of Okinawa in WW II. He remained in the Army until 1946.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and a life member of the Henry P. Smith Post #24 American Legion.
Roy is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law; Allan and Jan Savoy of Marcy, Tim and Sheila Savoy of Sauquoit, Rob Savoy of Marcy, Bill Savoy of Decatur, AL., Steven and Sharon Savoy of Scotia and Michael Savoy and Judy Kelly of Churchville, NY; four daughters and sons-in-law; Sylvia and Jay Dunbar of Saratoga, Sherie and Bart Sebastian of Saratoga, Mary and Nicholas Eberstadt of Washington, DC, and Eileen Page of Rome and 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Turner of Holland Patent. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth Stickles, Theodore Savoy and Robert Stickles; and three sisters, Elizabeth Michik, Ethelyn Hemming and Cecilia Amo.
