WINSTED/CANTON FOX – Roy W. Fox, Sr., 86, of Winsted, died peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital after a brief illness. Born in New York City on February 3, 1920, son of the late Robert and Frances (Wolfe) Fox, he graduated from Peekskill Military Academy in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater. A highly decorated veteran, he remained in the army reserves and retired with the rank of Major. He graduated from University of Vermont in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the aerospace industry for many years. In 1972 he founded Middleburg Corporation and was influential in the electronic connector industry until his retirement in 1996. Roy and his late wife, Harriet, lived in Canton from 1949 – 1994 when they moved to Winsted. He is survived by a brother Philip (Maya) Fox and a sister, Joyce Walsh. He is also survived by two daughters, Ginny (Larry) Mast and Judy (Terry) Witt, and a son, Hap Fox, 8 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. An avid skier and sailor, he was a member of the Catamount ski patrol for over 40 years. A member of the Baldwin Yacht Club, he competed in many ocean races. In recent years, he enjoyed kayaking on West Hill Lake.
