Roy E. Lewis (PawPaw), 77, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed from this temporary world into the holy embrace of his Heavenly Father on the 6th of July 2022.
Roy was born May 25, 1945, in Haskell, Arkansas to the late James “Jimmie” E. Lewis and Floy E. (Davis) Lewis. He later moved to Lonoke, Arkansas to raise his family. Roy married the love of his life, Earlene Lewis, on June 26, 1963; they were married for 59 years.
If you were blessed enough to know Roy, you know that there was nothing more important to him than family. He loved so fiercely, and if he loved you, it was with his whole heart. If you walked through his door, then you were family. If you gave him a moment of your time, he would spend it talking about his children, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He loved to share his family off to the world, nothing made him happier. They were the light of his life.
Roy loved being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and caring for all his animals were all important to him, and he passed that love down to the generations that followed him. Roy loved to share stories about his hunting and fishing adventures with his boys. He loved to care for all animals, including the strays that made their way to his home. Roy had a heart of gold – He couldn’t stand to see an animal mistreated and extended his heart out to anyone or anything that needed him.
Roy was a hard-working man and raised his family to have the same values and work ethic as he did. He worked for many years in the minnow farm business – both on the farm and driving a fish-hauling truck. Roy and Earlene were able to spend time traveling together as they worked hauling fish across the US. He built his business “Lewis Bait Hauling” and was very proud of his accomplishments that made his business successful through hard work and sacrifice.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Lewis of Lonoke, AR; four children, Roy Don (Gina) Lewis, Lori (Ronnie) Evans, Jerry Lewis, and Timmy Lewis, all of Lonoke, Arkansas; two sisters, Suzy (Robert) St. John, of Malvern, AR and Geraldine Love, of Alexander, AR; 9 grandchildren, Kaleena, Toni, Dwayne, Glenn, Kristina, Alyssa, Bubba, Jessy, and Josie; 8 great-grandchildren, Gabe, Sawyer, Kinsley, Silas, Hunter, Eli, Addie Mae, and Savannah; and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn his loss, but continue to celebrate his life.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Billy E. Lewis, Johnny C. Lewis, Kenneth W. Lewis, Wayne W. Fewell, James J. Lewis, Jr., and James E. Lewis; sisters, Melba D. Hillman, and Goldie Lewis; and grandson, Jacob Addison Lewis.
