Roy A. Sale passed from this life on December 12, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital following complications of surgery.
Roy was born August 22, 1924 in Wilder, Idaho to parents Charles Leslie Sale and Stella Irene (Ford) Sale. He grew up in Indian Valley and Cambridge. He served in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas during WWII. Roy later began a long and successful career as Comptroller in retail at CC Anderson in Boise, where he met his wife Margaret Ann Maize. They were married in 1949 and had four children. Their eldest daughter Linda and her husband David Best lived in Saint Maries, Idaho. Son Kenneth Sale and his wife Sheryl live in Greensboro, North Carolina; daughter Leslie Paulonis and her husband Daniel live in Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter Sharon and her husband Bruce live in Camarillo, California. Among those who Roy considered family were the Sheils, McKennas, Timmermans and Busayasiris.
Roy gave loving care to Margaret during her illness with cancer. She died in 2005 after 56 years of marriage. Roy was later blessed with the loving companionship of Natalie Anderson for some very good years, until he lost Natalie to cancer also.
His 90th birthday was celebrated in 2014. Friends and family from around the country and as far away as Thailand and Singapore gathered for a joyous celebration. Roy moved into Brookdale Independent Living last year where he made many new friends and was very active. There he had the good fortune to meet Mary Jane Marotti, who became a very dear friend and companion. The family would like to thank all of the residents and staff of Brookdale for their companionship and support.
Even in his 90s Roy continued to play golf at Centennial Golf Course. He also played in several card groups, enjoyed reading, attended Cathedral of the Rockies, was an avid Broncos fan and kept in close contact with children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a gentleman who had many life-long friends and will be missed by so many. Roy was a wonderful husband and father who just lit up around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Linda, son-in-law David Best, his wife Margaret, brother Charles Sale, sisters Francis Sale and Ruby Watson.
Roy is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; brother Lawrence Sale and his wife Patricia; and many nieces and nephews.
