On February 26, 1938, she married Stanley B. Smith, Jr., who preceded her in death on June 4, 1981. Rowena had previously been a swimming instructor for the Girl Scouts. She loved animals, especially her beagle, Petey and her cat, Gigi. She loved sailing and swimming.
