Rosemary (Maloney) Lashuay, age 86 of Midland, died Sunday July 19, 2009 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. The daughter of the late Edward and Nora (Duame) Maloney was born in Stiles, Wisconsin, on October 29, 1922. At the age of 5 her family moved to Amasa, Michigan, North of Iron Mountain. Rosemary was valedictorian of her graduating class at Amasa High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Escanaba and worked for Michigan Bell. She was transferred to Detroit during the war and then to Midland, where she met and married Francis Marion Lashuay on February 8, 1944.
Rosemary worked at A & P Food stores where she made many lifetime friends. She joined The Dow Chemical Company in 1962 and retired in 1986 after 24 years of service. Rosemary enjoyed bowling and playing Yahtzee with family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she was happiest when she was cooking meals for her family. She especially enjoyed the large family gatherings at her home for the holidays.
She enjoyed traveling, especially her two trips to Hawaii and several trips to Florida. Rosemary made numerous trips to the Upper Peninsula where her parents and siblings lived. When she crossed the straits of Mackinaw, first by ferry boat and then later by car over the Mackinaw Bridge, she always remarked “now I’m in God’s Country”. Her love for the Upper Peninsula was truly genuine. For years, she returned every Fall to enjoy the fall colors with her family. She was also very proud of her Irish heritage.
After retirement, she and her husband lived in their home in Indian River on Mullet Lake. Her family will always be grateful for the compassionate care she gave to Marion during his 7 year battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He preceded her in death in 1995.
Surviving are daughters, Pat Gruber, Terry Horden, Debbie Zelezney all of Midland; son, Ken Lashuay of Mancelona; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Ed Maloney, Patrick Maloney, Agnes Maloney and Laverne Chervo; son-in-law, Darrell Gruber and daughter-in-law, Cathy Lashuay Vanderwall.
