Rosemarie Bellantone, 87, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015, at St. Raphael’s hospital after a brief illness. Rose lived most of her life in New Haven and Hamden, from which she eventually moved to Elim Park Place in Cheshire, where she happily spent the last 15 years of her life. Rose came from a family of bakers, and for many years she assisted her parents at their Hamden bakery shop, Bell’s Italian & French Pastry. A kind and generous person, Rose was always ready to participate and lend a hand, as best she could. Rose loved crafts, stuffed animals, and cats, and she surrounded herself with all of them. Although developmentally challenged herself, she readily volunteered for various tasks at Clelian Adult Day Center, where she was both a volunteer and a client. Such tasks included patiently teaching those who were less competent than she. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Dominic (“Dick”) Bellantone and Mary (Pomarico) Bellantone, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and her best friend, Sylvia Fleischner. She is survived by her cousins Jean Mauro and his wife Anne of North Haven, CT, who were her guardians and conservators for 33 years, Robert Bellantone of Yonkers, NY, Rill (Bellantone) Reuter of Winona, MN, Donna Bellantone of Taftville, CT, James and Ronald Malerba, both of North Haven, CT, as well as several other cousins in distant places. Special thanks is owed to both Clelian Center and Elim Park for their loving care and attention to her particular needs.
