Rosella Marie Thomas Bass, 71, of Jacksonville, IL died Saturday evening, August 20, 2011 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born December 28, 1939 in Pike County, IL; the daughter of Charles William and Grace Irene Bishop Thomas. She married Raymond Henry Bass, Jr. on July 6, 1991 and he survives.

She is also survived by six children, Reginald Benton (wife, Cynthia), Cyndy Benton, Debbra Benton, and Amy Albers (husband, Craig), all of Jacksonville, Jennifer Smith (husband, Tom) of Franklin, TN, and Trey Bass of Sugarland, TX; 13 grandchildren, Allison Guidish (husband, Nick) of Jacksonville, Lindsey Benton of Denver, CO, Natalie Garver (husband, Luke) of Chatham, Rob Benton of Marion, Andrew Frields currently serving with the US Army in Afghanistan, Dustin Prather (wife, Stephanie) of Jacksonville, Samantha Heimgartner of Jacksonville, David, Maddy and Steven Albers, all of Jacksonville, Jamie Smith of Franklin, TN, and Christian and Bailey Bass, both of Sugarland, TX; four great grandchildren, Hunter and Garrett Prather and Emma and Elizabeth Guidish, all of Jacksonville; a brother; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Rosella attended Coon Island and Sugar Grove country schools, Winchester Elementary School, and graduated from Winchester High School in 1957. She was employed many years within the hospitality industry before her retirement in March of 2002. She then became a full time doting grandmother and great grandmother attending every activity possible which involved her family.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, the Springfield Philatelic Society, Christian Women’s Fellowship, and enjoyed participating in the YMCA Water Aerobics Group. An active civic volunteer, Rosella volunteered with JACIL, Salvation Army, Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, and other community groups.
