Rose R. Chmelowicz of New Britain, 96, passed away at Sheridan Woods Health Care Center, Bristol, on Thursday, November 4, 2012. A native of New Britain, Rose retired from Fafnir Bearing Company having worked there from an early age as a ball bearing inspector. She was the youngest of seven children and was lovingly the rock of the family. She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers Walter, Edward, Tony and Leo, and two sisters Carolyn and Helen. In the 90’s while she lived at Arbor Rose in New Britain, she was able to have her beloved cat Wolfie with her and was quite independent. When she resided later at Saint Lucian’s Residence in New Britain, she was very comfortable in the Polish community and attended mass nearly every week. Rose never married and was very much a part of her family’s lives and leaves many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Our traditional Easter celebration was centered around Rose’s Polish white borscht – always very delicious. In her younger years, Rose loved to go dancing with close friends, sometimes going to Springfield for a good band. She also traveled with a small group of friends and their travel agent in the 50’s and 60’s to Spain, Italy, Greece and France. She also traveled around the country to California, Las Vegas, (she was a lucky gambler!) and Florida. We will miss our family matriarch.
