Rosalie Gale (Hellmyer) Smith, 79, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 21, 1939, in Centralia, the daughter of Herman Hellmyer and Lillian (Hayes) Hellmyer.
She married James “Jim” Smith on February 22, 1979, and he survives in Centralia. In addition to her husband of 40 years, James “Jim” Smith of Centralia, she is also survived by seven children: J.T. Smith and wife Amanda of Centralia, Cheryl Smith McNalley and husband Scott of Carterville, Illinois , Lisa Smith and Scott Hanson of San Diego, CA, Tina Smith of Kalona, Iowa, Tammy Goss and husband Jim of Iowa City, Iowa, Anthony L. Vest and wife Penny of Centralia, and Mark Vest of Centralia; 18 grandchildren: B.J. Smith, Macie Smith, Jerzi Smith, Jaile Smith, Braydin Smith, Payton Smith, Reagan Smith, Michael Swickard, Mark Swickard, Kendall Smith, Kelsey Slay, Taylor Albright, Jimmy Goss, Mackenzie Goss, Brandon Cook, and wife Tiphani, Dylan Cook, Laci Vest, and Mark Vest, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend: Una Kirgan and husband of Salem.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, an infant twin sister, and three brothers: Dick Hellmyer, Don Hellmyer, and Bob Hellmyer. Rosalie worked with her husband as the Owner and Secretary of Jim Smith Tank Service for many years. She loved sewing, working outside, and being with her family. She was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia and a student of Trinity Lutheran School. Rosalie will be remembered as a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt with a heart bigger than the world.
