Ronald Lane went to his eternal home peacefully February 1, 2022, at age 84.
He is survived by his loving wife Judith Lane, two sons Ronald Keith Lane and Curtis D. Colberg, four grandchildren Savanna, Curtis, Cody and Clay, great grandchild Jordan; numerous nephews and nieces and a large extended family in Central Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Ron met his wife, Judy, whom he married in 1976 and they spent 45 glorious years together in Boca Raton. Family was most important to Ron. His favorite times with family and friends were on their boat, second home in Georgia, wonderful experiences in Wyoming, family reunions with family from PA and NJ, canoe trips on the Peace River. He coached the Boca Jets Little League Football teams involving his family. Ron was all about people and was everyone’s friend. He enjoyed socializing, canoeing, hunting, fishing, and grilling with family and friends. His friends said about him: “A smile was always his concern. Everyone came before his needs;” “A true gentleman;” “A loving friend;” and “We know how much he loved his wife and how grateful he was for their time together.” He belonged to the Masonic Fraternity and was Past Master of the Boca Raton Lodge #171, Past District Deputy representing Masons of Florida, and a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite.
Ron was born at home in Mulberry, Florida, to Oscar and Sarah Jane Lane. His father died when he was young and Ron and his brother John Lane (deceased) were raised by their mother. He graduated from Mulberry High School and received a college football scholarship (University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Tennessee Tech, Cookville), but was sidelined with injuries. He was in the School of Business, the Letterman Club, T-Club and track in addition to football. After college he spent four years as a Florida State Trooper, Palm Beach County, about which he often said that was his favorite job because he could help so many people. He attended the Florida Highway Patrol School in Tallahassee where he won the public speaking award.
Following law enforcement he dedicated the remainder of his career to many phases of the building industry where he served on the boards of directors of: Florida Transportation and Road Builders Association (FTBA); the Florida Concrete and Products Association; the Construction Association of South Florida (CASF); and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). He received the following awards: Lifetime Achievement Award, Masonic Education Award for Meritorious Recognition, Leadership Award, and awards for charity work from: Children’s Harbor, Inc.; the Children’s Place South; and House of Hope.
