Ronald Joe “Fish” Day, 72, of Montezuma, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2020 at home surrounded by friends and family. He worked at General Housewares before working for the IUOE Local #841, where he retired from. He was born July 27, 1947 in West Terre Haute to Norman and Helen (Wyrick) Day. Ron is survived by his daughters, Tina Holloway (Roger) and Christy Day (Larry Smith); son, Dion Day (Amber Allen); sisters, Kathy Dickens (Jim) and Penny Ratts (Marvin “Marv”); brother, Steve Day; special friend, Millie Marina; grandchildren, Cody Day, Brandon Swinford, Jaxon Holloway, Lea Altheide, Rosellen Day, and Tyler Day; great-grandchildren, Carsyn Day, Gracelynn Day, Landon Altheide, Lance Elkins, Zane LeCleque, Drake Swinford, Kaitlyn Swinford, Annabell Overpeck, and Maebel Hannell; mother of his children, Vickie Day and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ron was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. He was an Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. While serving, he taught himself how to play the harmonica. He was locally known as one of the best harmonicist. He was a founding member of the Country Music Makers, entertaining crowds for almost 30 years. He played along side Buddy Stewart, Bob Gibbons, John Dowell, Tom Williams, Charlie Lawson, and Carl Compton. His love of music is what motivated him to teach himself to play guitar and sing. His musical achievements include being inducted into the Wabash Valley Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved the outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104 and VFW Post #972.
