Ronald D. Bryan, 73, of Brighton, passed away April 1, 2012 at his home. He was born June 15, 1938 in Panora, IA to Charles and Lula (Sturdevant) Bryan. He moved to Colorado at 14 years old and graduated from Lyons High School in 1957.
He began his working career in numerous rock quarries in Lyons and then for HP Laudermilk Construction where he worked on a demolition crew building various highways including the Million Dollar Highway that runs through the Black Canyon in Gunnison, CO. He was then drafted into the US Army, and served from 1961-1963 at Fort Carson. He met Jan Portrey while in the Army in Colorado Springs and they were married on April 30, 1964. He and Jan briefly operated a restaurant in Colorado Springs and then moved to Brighton in December 1964. Ron then worked for Adams County in Facilities Management from 1965 and retired in 1993.
He was a member of the Firestone American Legion Post #1985, VFW of Brighton Men’s Auxiliary, Post #2841 and the Brighton Elks Lodge #1586 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 3461 in Commerce City. He loved camping and fishing and was an avid hunter; especially goose, pheasant and deer. He always looked forward to his annual deer hunting trip near Kremmling. He loved traveling, river rafting trips and later taking various Caribbean cruises with his wife. He loved entertaining, gardening and cooking. Ron always had open arms and an open heart. He was always friendly, had a contagious smile and was a generous person.
Ron is survived by his wife, Jan, of Brighton; daughters, Julie (Keith) Wakefield of Northglenn and Rhonda (Bryan) Engle of Loveland; brother, Robert (Marlo) Bryan of Berthoud; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
