Ronald “Ron” K. Owen, 88, died of respiratory failure at Methodist Hospital on Saturday, September 25, 2021, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waukee, where the family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Services will be livestreamed from this site starting at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Ron was born on February 12, 1933 in Des Moines to the late Eddie and Ethel (Kimes) Owen. He was a graduate of Valley High School and was called to service in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in all aspects of the dairy business beginning with Weiser Dairy, later for Bob Schneider bulk milk transport then Roberts Dairy, where he retired in 1992.

He and Donna Mae Weiser were childhood sweethearts and married on August 9, 1953. They began their marriage together in Panama, where Ron completed his military service. They then made their home in West Des Moines until moving to their Adel farm in 1964.

Ron was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and helped Donna teach Sunday School. He enjoyed square dance calling, camping and attending three generations of family school events. Ron made his family a priority. For over 25 years, he daily composed and emailed his family the OWEN NEWS CENTRAL, a newsletter of family updates through which he kept 50 plus family members close to himself and each other.

granddaughter, Lyndsy (Giuseppe) Urbano and great grandchildren, Vincent, Anthony, Palma and Patricia
granddaughter, Laurie (Max) Book and great grandsons, Luke and Landon

Son, BRIAN (Kristie) Owen of Adel with
grandson, Kory (Brandi) Owen and great grandchildren Hayley Owen, Ava Owen, Creighton Owen, Cooper Owen and Caleb Dauterive

Ron is also survived by three siblings, Don (Carmen), Harry (Dot) and Sharon (Roger) Dady; brother-in-law, Jerry Proudfit and sister-in-law, Donna Rae Owen. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Marilyn Proudfit and Fred Owen.
