Mona was a faithful member of Advent United Church of Christ for over 25 years where she served on the Deacon Board, choir member, and Sandwich Makers. She never missed going to church for Sunday worship or Bible Study until recent complications. Mona was a former bowler with the Madison League of Columbus; she was an exceptional cook who loved playing bingo, pokeno, and a good game of push-rummy. Mona was a former member of Hilltop United Methodist Church where she was a member of The Anna Circle and The United Methodist Women.
Mona was known for sending scriptures and daily devotions on Facebook, her last post was two days prior to her passing. Mona loved to travel and in her spare time she loved watching Gun Smoke, Golden Girls, soap operas, and game shows. She had a heart of gold, loved to tell jokes, and a praying spirit who would do anything for her family and friends.
Mona is preceded in by death by father, Odell Langston Sr., mother, Frances Fitzgerald, stepfather, Price McGee; daughter Teresa Hurt; brothers, Richard D Langston, and Donald L. Langston; sister, Yvonne Langston Cowans; husband Frederick Hurt all of Columbus, Ohio.
To cherish her memory, she leaves three daughters, Kimberly Hurt-Breckenridge, Kelly (Vernon) Clayton, and Tonya (Vincent III) Smithers; 12 grandchildren: Shanae and Samone Wilson, Dianne Harris, Elum Dashawna (Mody) Ball, Demitris Hurt, Vincent (Ta-Leah), Stephen, Monique, Shaniqua, and Elijah Smithers, Anthony Hurt, and Marquise Sowards; 27 great-grandchildren; brother Odell A. (Gwen) Langston Jr., father in-law Deacon George E Hurt Sr, sister in laws Lorraine Moore, Lynda Miller, Loretta (David) Williams, and Lisa Wilson; brother in-law George E Hurt Jr., Special sister Ruthie Middlebrooks and Betty Scott; life-long friends Msemaji (James Stinson) and Jonny Arnett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
May Mona’s smile and spirit continue to shine through all of those that have known and loved her. Romana (Mona) Jean Langston Hurt was a true example of someone who Loves God, Loves People, Period.
