Rolin William Herron, 94, of Salem died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017. Rolin was born March 8, 1923 in Salem, the son of the late Arthur John and Neva Fay (Pregenzer) Herron.

After graduation from Salem High School, he became a partner of Herron Transfer Co. Rolin entered the Army during World War II, receiving basic training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia. He served in Germany in the motor pool returning many Germans to their homes. In 1990, he retired from Herron Transfer Co. and became the caretaker of the Salem Country Club. Rolin married Alberta Ruth Kenreigh on September 14, 1943. The couple was married 69 years.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Denton and Marilyn Herron of Salem, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Loraine Herron of Atlanta, Georgia, his daughter-in-law Marilyn Herron of Salem, his grandchildren, Jason Herron of San Palo, Brazil, Emily Hicks of Chesapeake, VA, Natalie McCurdy of Lewis Center, Sarah Herring of Atlanta, Georgia, and Gibb Rolin Herron of Atlanta, Georgia. He also has six great granddaughters and three great grandsons.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Herron on April 19, 2012; brothers, Gail and Arthur Herron, sisters, Velma Birkheimer and Lavern O’Neil, and a son, Rolin William Herron Jr.
