Roland Lee Kell, 69 of Sandoval, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.Lee was born December 29, 1945 in Centralia, son of Dornton “Dorn” Clay Kell and Mabel Fern (Prosise) Kell of Walnut Hill, IL.
He married Linda Lusch on May 8, 1970 and she preceded him in death November 20, 1985.He is survived by his companion of 28 ½ years, Kathy Newkirk of Sandoval; two sons: Ryan Kell and wife Lisa of Oak Park, IL and Tyson Kell and Lisa Oller of Sandoval; a daughter, Crystal Helpingstine and husband Jon of Friendsville, TN; four grandchildren:
Lindsay and Abigail Helpingstine both of Friendsville, TN and Elina and Annabelle Kell both of Oak Park, IL; a sister, Neva Sager of Texico, IL; two sister-in-laws: Carol Kell of Xenia and Dolores Kell of Centralia; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a grandson: Brandon Helpingstine, who passed on December 2, 2013, two brothers: Ed Kell and Charles Kell, and a brother-in-law, Pete Sager.Lee worked 14 years at General Contractors in Centralia and he then worked at Fabick Tractor Company in Salem, IL for 12 years and later retired in 2010.
He also volunteered at the Sandoval Fire Department for 22 years. Lee was a member of the Sandoval First United Methodist Church and also volunteered with the Shalom Food Pantry. He enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering with engines, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. In his earlier years he took pleasure in drag racing cars. In the mornings, he enjoyed going to Hardees with his lifelong friend, Fred Dodd. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
