Roger Lynn Newcome

Roger Lynn Newcome, 66, of Kingwood died in his home on Saturday, March 4, 2017, with the noise of his family surrounding him.

A lifelong resident of Kingwood, WV, he graduated from Kingwood High School in 1968 and attended Shepherd College from 1968-1972. Out of college, he gained employment at Sheidow Bronze, where he worked for over 30 years. He would tell you he was a salesman. But he was a sales manager, an executive, in the company. A modest man by nature, he did not brag or boast about his success in business. What he would brag and boast about, however, was his family; his wife of 40 years, Peggy Newcome, his four kids, Lisa and Daniel McDonald and Chip and Teressa Newcome; and his five grandkids, Kelsie, Joshua and Emily McDonald, and Corrine and Joshie Newcome and his six nephews and their families.

He enjoyed serving the people of Preston County through various church missions. He assisted the Local Benevolence and helped to create the Goodwill Dinner, both through Wesley United Methodist Church in Kingwood.

In recent years, he became pretty handy with a needle and thread; he took up the art of quilting, where he proved to have a keen eye for color pattern. He went on to make many baby quilts he gave to a number of expectant mothers in the area.

He enjoyed traveling the globe with his wife, Peggy, and his good friends Chuck and Carolyn Miller. They cruised the Mediterranean, The Caribbean, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Russia and The Iberian Peninsula. His favorite part of cruising, aside from seeing the world, was the midnight all you can eat ice cream and pizza.

But perhaps more than anything, he loved being with his family. He cheered on his kids and grandkids at countless baseball games, dance recitals, basketball games, and theatre performances, where each could watch the joy on his face as he watched those he loved perform.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul “Beck” and Velma Newcome and a brother, Paul Thomas Newcome.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Zelda Stein Weiss Cancer Center and the hospice nurses and staff of WV Caring for the care they gave Roger during his illness.
