Roger Dean Lane, 61, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday July 11, 2012 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Roger was born on March 27, 1951 in Monroe County and was the son of Virgil and Carrie (Hawkins) Lane.
Roger worked at the Indiana University Physical Plant for 42 years starting in 1969 until his disabling health forced his retirement in August of 2011. Roger helped to start a 4 year apprenticeship program at the Physical Plant and went through the first class himself where he became a journeyman in refrigeration and air conditioning. He had also served as President of AFCSME Local 832.
Roger was a member of the Ellettsville Masonic Lodge #245 and the Stonebelt Shrine Club. Roger loved racing and pickin’ music with his friends. Survivors include his wife Marilyn K. (Grubb) Lane of Bloomington, one brother Virgil L. Lane of Bloomington and 3 nieces and 3 nephews and their families; Rhea Dawn Rains, Ronald Eugene Lane II, Randall Joseph Lane, Christina Allen, Jennifer Amrhein, and Virgil Leroy Lane II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one brother Ronald Eugene Lane.
