Roger Harry Hecht, 72, of Midland, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born November 7, 1946 to Harry and Arlene (Campbell) Hecht and grew up on the family farm in North Bradley, graduating from Coleman High School in 1965. Drafted into the U.S. Army, Roger served in the infantry with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam in 1968. He was awarded the Purple Heart from wounds sustained in combat. Roger attended Northern Michigan University and Delta College and worked at the Dow Chemical Company, retiring after 35 years of service. He married Jan Orwig on June 27, 1975 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Midland, and they recently celebrated forty-three years together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by and the proud father of three beautiful daughters, Katrina (Rob) Hildebrandt, Dr. Eva (Josh) Bartlett and Minna (Cory) Kerchner, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by adored grandchildren, Olivia and Merick Bartlett, baby boy Kerchner (March 2019), and sisters, Norma Hecht, Carol Simpson and sister-in-law, Kathy Shoemaker, as well as many special cousins, nieces and nephews. Roger will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong character and work ethic, and his sense of humor. He was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle expert, and a skilled woodworker. As a diehard Rolling Stones fan, he was not surprised that Keith Richards would outlive him.
