Roger E. Jarvis, age 94, of Kingston, died peacefully at home, on Friday, September 27, 2019. He was the only child of the late Ralph D and Carrie E (Mentch) Jarvis. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra C (Pearse), his son Jonathan H. Jarvis of Boston and his daughter Jennifer E. Jarvis of Tarpon Springs FL, (by his late wife, Marjorie H. Hastings); and an extended family of stepchildren, Michael J. Barthel and Shayne K. Martin and grandchildren Ryan W. Barthel, Caitlyn M. Barthel, Elizabeth M. Martin, Victoria J. Martin and Lucas W. Martin. Also, many in-laws, cousins, friends and colleagues. Roger was born in Allentown, PA on December 3, 1924, he grew up in Ocean City NJ, where his love of Jazz led him to form his own high school band. He favored the Alto Sax, but could play most instruments. Right after high school, Roger joined the United States Navy, serving as a CQM1c during World War II and the D-Day Invasion, and again during the Korean Conflict. Later, his love of music steered him to attend Westminster College in PA, and later complete his Master’s degree in teaching at Bridgewater State College. Landing a job as the first music teacher in the Duxbury Public School system, he spearheaded the development of their Performing Art Program during his 30-year career. He was very proud that his children & grandchildren shared his love of music. Roger’s 1st great passion was the sea. He enjoyed Commercial and Sport fishing, and being a private Charter Boat Captain. Roger also authored two books on this subject, “The Bottom Dunkers Bible” and “The Mighty Bluefin”.
