Roger Ethan Boyd left us suddenly on May 18th at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife Paula, daughter Siobhan (Maritza) Boyd-Nelson, and sisters Saundra (Les) Canon and Sharon Boyd.
Roger was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 5, 1950. He earned an Associates Degree in engineering from Hocking Technical College. His career with NCR (National Cash Register) as a field engineer began in Cincinnati in 1971 and continued in Columbus, eventually spanning 41 years.
Roger was a lifelong and beloved coach and youth mentor. He coached basketball at Liberty Christian Academy and coached track with Peabody Track Club, New World Track Club, and at The Wellington School. Even when playfully referring to folks as knuckleheads, he could be counted on by family and friends alike to show up when called upon, often he first to arrive and the last to leave, with a “see you next month” on his way out.
Roger leaves to cherish his memory and heed his advice step-children Lisa (Godfrey) Ludaway, Leah Higginbothom, Adam (Brandy) Higginbothom, Rachel Otis, and Sarah Lindsey, eleven grandchildren including Marsellis Davis and Dion Francis, three great-grandchildren, uncle Robert Hayes, aunt Kathlyne (Curtis) Harris, lifelong friend Wayne Roberts, a host of nieces, and great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Boyd and Sarah Boyd, and his sister Lettie Bozeman.
