Roger Dale Stone, of Sharpsburg, died August 5, 2014 after an extended battle with cancer. He was 69. He was born August 14, 1944 in Birmingham, Al. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio repairman from 1962 to 1966 and worked as a truck driver for several companies, retiring from Atlas Transportation in 2013 after driving a truck for Kroger for 27 years. Roger was a citizen’s band radio enthusiast and was known by his CB handle “Rocky Top” by many friends and fellow truckers. His work in the transportation industry combined with his leisure travel took him to 48 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Europe. In his later years he enjoyed photography, and his landscape pictures are displayed proudly throughout the home he shared with Priscilla, his wife of 47 years. He is survived by Priscilla Smith Stone; son, Jay and his wife Tammy of Griffin, GA, son, Marty and his wife Sandra of Elgin, OK, son Marshall and his wife Angie of Jackson; sister, Elsie Neely and her husband Ted of Jemison, Al; nine grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Barney Alfred Stone, his mother Mary Elizabeth Rogers Stone, and his brother, Alfred Leland Stone.
