Roger Dale Gilbert of Richland, Michigan entered heaven from his home on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020, from complications with congestive heart failure, at the age of 69.

Roger was born in Cadillac, Michigan to Russell Gilbert and the late Mildred (Smith) Gilbert. He graduated from Cadillac Senior High School and went on to attend Lake Superior State College and Ferris State University. Roger worked as a Journeyman printer at the Cadillac Evening News in Cadillac and at the Petoskey News Review in Petoskey.

Roger was an active member of Temple Hill Baptist Church in Cadillac, where he married his beloved wife, Susan (Longstreth) Gilbert. Roger and Susan also attended Parr Memorial Baptist Church in Petoskey, now known as First Baptist Church, where Roger enjoyed serving as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher as well as being a Leader and Commander for the AWANA children’s ministry. Roger’s most recent membership was at Berean Baptist Church of Portage, Michigan.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred (Smith) Gilbert and sister, Nancy Chouinard. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Longstreth) Gilbert, whom he married on August 10 of 1974. He is also survived by his father, Russell Gilbert; daughters: Heather Dickinson and her husband, Eric of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Gretchen Howard and her husband Jason of Greer, South Carolina; grandchildren: Drew Dickinson and Tyler Dickinson; brother: Richard (Robbie) Gilbert; sisters: Ruth (Tom) Jacobs, Karen (Matt) Wheaton and Janet (Ron) Strickler; many nieces and nephews.

Roger loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed deer hunting. He had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for his smile and laughter.
