Roger Dean Cackler, 76, of Melrose passed away March 28, 2014 at the Lucas County Health Center with his children by his side. Roger Dean Cackler, son of Inez (Lovell) and H.C. Cackler was born November 2, 1937 in Chariton, Iowa. Roger was educated in rural schools in Lucas County and graduated from Chariton High School in 1956. After graduating high school, Roger began his career in cabinet making in Denver, Colorado with his Uncle Byron Lovell. He moved back to Iowa and started building homes. Roger had many business partners over the years, the latest being his best friend and business partner, (brother from another mother) Bud Schumann. Roger and Bud built many beautiful homes throughout Lucas and the surrounding counties. In later years, Roger built his own home and retired to Green Acres in Monroe County near Lake Rathbun. Roger enjoyed his time at Green Acres working in his shop and building numerous items for family and friends. He enjoyed his garden and feeding the birds. A favorite pastime was driving down to Honey Creek to count the deer and turkey. After his wife, Donna passed away his constant companion was his beloved pet, Miss Kitty.
