Roger A. Strand, 87, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Westerly Hospital. 

 

He was born on August 1, 1919 and grew up in Rice Lake, WI.

 

As a young man he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps helping to revitalize forests and build trails in State and National parks.  He was also an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the Marshall Islands, Guam, and with the coastal defense battery at Oaks Inn in Westerly.  It was during his service at Oaks Inn that he met his loving wife of 61years, Irene G. Strand.

 

Roger retired after more than 30 years from Bostich in East Greenwich, RI.  During retirement he enjoyed gardening, tending his yard, and taking his wife on scenic drives that usually ended with an ice cream cone.  He was a lifetime member of Harley P. Chase VFW Post 1265 in Pawcatuck.

 

Roger is survived by his wife, Irene, of Pawcatuck; two sons, Marvin and his wife, Lisa of Hope Valley, RI and Eric and his wife Sherry of Poquoson, VA; three grandchildren, Christopher of Lutherville, GA; Peter of Orlando, FL; and Jennifer of Poquoson, VA; a sister, June Brunette and her husband, Thomas of Rice Lake, WI and two sister-in-laws, Betty Strand and Grace Palazzolo of Pawcatuck as well as many nieces and nephews.
