Roderick Wardale Fletcher was born on January 2, 1962, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, William Fletcher and Ellen Lewis. He was the first born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Quincy and his sisters, Kimberly, Qiana, Alyssa, Tonya and his cousins, Benjamin and James. As a child, Roderick was known to be a little on the mischievous side. He would often instigate things between others and stand back to watch the outcome. He loved model cars. He collected them and continued doing so his entire life. He was also a passionate collector of gold jewelry. He shared a special lifelong closeness with his siblings and many of his cousins. He was close to his grandmother and always respected her word as “law.” Roderick received his formal education in Denver, where he attended Manual, and George Washington High Schools. Roderick met the former Debra O’Donnell at the home of his God mother. They have been lifelong companions and friends. The love shared between them was unconditional and never ending. On October 8, 2006, they exchanged vows in the home of his grandmother. Roderick was the proud father of DeJuan and Kiara. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Roderick was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. He was a hardworking man, who performed odd duties with a spirit of excellence as his health would allow. In his free time, he enjoyed reading car magazines and customizing cars. He was the type of man who had a contagious laugh and a smile that would light up any room he entered. He never met a stranger and was a person who was giving and didn’t mind lending a helping hand to others. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of kind guy who leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Roderick was to love him. Roderick Wardale Fletcher departed this life on July 18, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Debra L. O’Donnell Fletcher; one son, DeJuan W. Roberts; one daughter, Kiara D. Roberts; his parents, Ellen K. Barnes, William Fletcher; his step mother, Lena Fletcher; one brother, Quincy L. Barnes all of Denver, CO; three sisters, Kimberly D. (Byron) McAlester of Scottsdale, Arizona, Qiana M. Fletcher, Tonya Waits and Alyssa “Nikki” Brant both of Denver and a host of other relatives and many friends.
