Robert W. Goth grew up on a dairy farm in Phillips, Wisconsin. Bob served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean conflict and utilized the ‘GI Bill’ to graduate from the University of Wisconsin at Superior in 1954 with a B.S, degree in biology. He entered graduate school at the University of Minnesota where he earned a M.S. degree in 1957 and a Ph.D. degree in 1961 in plant pathology.

Bob spent his entire professional career as a plant pathologist for the USDA-ARS at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. He devoted most of his 37 year career to potato investigation. Bob’s work concentrated on improving potato disease resistance with several methods, discoveries, publications and multiple industry honors credited to his name.

Bob, beloved husband to the late Joyce Marie Goth, will be missed by his three children: Valerie; Bud; and Stephen; and four grandsons: Kelley, Alaric, Colin, and Garrison.
