Robert W. Smith Sr., 74, of Guilford Lake, Ohio, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Salem Community Hospital. He was born November 22, 1937 in Erbacon, West Virginia, the son of the late Norva E. and Flora M. (Williams) Smith. Before his retirement in 1990, Mr. Smith had worked at General Motors in Lordstown for 20 years where he was a WEMR in the Skilled Trades and served on the Shop Committee for 18 years. For the last 10 years he loved his job as the Administrative Assistant to the Shop Chairman, Al Alli. His passion was fishing, boating, hunting, playing cards and most of all spending time with his grandchildren which brought him great joy. He was a 40-year member of the Charity Masonic Lodge of Deerfield, served in the U.S. Navy, and was a lifetime member of the Salem AMVETS #45, member of the American Legion of Bridgeport, WV; 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Tadmor Temple of the Shrine. He was a proud member of United Auto Workers Local #1112. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Rogerson) Smith, whom he married December 31, 2004; three sons, Allan D. McKinney of Hanoverton, Robert W. (Mona) Smith Jr. of Canfield, Lawrence Michael (Barb) Smith of Salem; four daughters, Brenda (Louie) Zannetakis of Lordstown, Debra (Matt) Hutton of Beloit, Michele (Dale) Burge of Hanoverton and Pamela (Bobby) Reese of Keystone Heights, Florida; two stepdaughters, Nancy (Mike) Moore of Wheeling, WV and Susan (Bill) Joseph of Wheeling, WV; a brother, Derl Smith of Sebring; a sister, JoAnn Hull of Weston, WV; his lifelong friend, Leroy Everhart of Steubenville; 23 grandchildren: and 18 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Catherine Lavonne (McKinney) Smith, whom he married May 10, 1958, preceded him in death April 12, 2003.
