Lt. Col. Robert William Schaefer, Ret.

1934 – 2014

Robert William Schaefer, age 79 passed away July 28, 2014.  He was born Oct 18, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa, and spent most of his youth in Oklahoma City, OK.    He held degrees from Austin College, Sherman, TX, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL.

In 1956 he enlisted in the USAF and became a surveyor at Eglin AFB.  In 1958 he received an officer commission after completing an aviation cadet/basic navigation course.  He served the next 20 years in various capacities: an Electronic Warfare officer on B-52’s, mathematics instructor at the US Air Force Academy, a Weapons Systems Officer in F-4’s and in 1974 he returned to Eglin where he completed his USAF career.

After his retirement, Bob continued to support the US Air Force by working in the defense industry.  He also spent many years as an adjunct professor teaching mathematics at OWCC.

Bob enjoyed traveling, and cruising, but most of all he enjoyed being with family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W Schaefer and Murel Schaefer Kluck and brother Gene N. Kluck.  He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughters Sharon Silsbee (Dave),  Patsy Schneider (David),  grandchildren Allison and Andrew Silsbee; Zack and Hannah Schneider;  brothers George E. Schaefer (Jean) and John N. Schaefer(Barbara).
