Robert W. Chapman passed away peacefully on May 31, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 85. He was born on June 10, 1927 to Albert and Julia (Kusmierczyk) Chapman of Newington. Robert was the loving husband to the late Annabel (Weber) Chapman and beloved brother to his sister, the late Jean Carlson. Bob or “Chappie” as some of his friends liked to call him, was a member of the American Legion, was a toolmaker by trade and retired from Sky Manufacturing in New Britain. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, painting wildlife pictures on canvas, working with wood, polka dancing and reading about American history. Bob skied from his chalet in New Hampshire for many years and belonged to the over 70 ski club. He also belonged to the Austrian Donau Club in New Britain and was a proud World War II Army Veteran. He is survived by his daughter Linda C. Bartenstein and her husband Ronald of West Hartford, his grandchildren Ronald Robert and Kimberly Ann who he cherished and loved very much, and several nieces and nephews. Robert’s family would like to thank the staff of St. Francis Hospital who took such good care of him during his stay.
