Obituary of Robert W. Baumer
BAUMER, Robert W. of Zilwaukee, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at HealthSource of Saginaw. He was 93 years old. Robert W. Baumer was born on May 2, 1921 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Fredrick William and Lillian (Sabraw) Baumer. Robert was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, class of 1939. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from April 13, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 4, 1946. Upon his return, Robert married the love of his life and lifelong soul mate, Shirley Mae Summerfield on June 1, 1946; she survives him. He worked as a layout man for Wickes Boiler (Combustion Engineering) drawing blueprints of boilers for the company. Robert retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a charter member of St. Helen Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an excellent card player, especially Euchre, and loved taking trips to the casino. Robert also enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team the Detroit Tigers.
Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley; two sons and two daughters: Allen (Dawn) Baumer of Pinconning, Gail Baumer of Saginaw, Veronica “Ronnie” (Rick) Prill of Bentley, Mark (Shelia) Baumer of Saginaw; seven grandchildren: April (Jon) Brandel, Eric (Carla) Baumer, Craig (Jessica) Baumer, Stephanie (Ryan) Eberhart, Chad Kostrzewa, Courtney (Eric) Bush, and Leslie Baumer; 12 great grandchildren: Jacob and Caleb Brandel, Ethan, Ryan and Hailey Baumer, Jayden, Bellasue and Bentley Baumer, Justin Eberhart, Katelynn Kostrzewa, and Anderson and Addison Bush; a sister, Shirley Davenport of Statesville, NC. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Don and Charles Baumer and sister, Lois Pine.
