Winsted: Robert William Barney, 70, of 80 Chestnut Street, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Laurel Hill Health Care Center following a short illness. Born in North Canaan, March 12, 1939, he was a son of the late Archibald C. and Jennie B. (Surdam) Barney. Prior to his retirement he had operated a fork truck in the brass industry in Waterbury for many years. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the US Navy and had served on the USS Sullivans for 2 years. His survivors include his brother, Archie Barney of North Canaan and several nieces and nephews. He was spredeceased by his sisters, Helen, Katherine and Jane Barney.
