Robert Steven “Bob” Sayer, 63, passed away Monday Sept. 22, 2014 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland and formerly of Alexandria, La. Bob was born Dec. 15, 1950 in Beech Grove to Thomas R. and Mildred B. (Townsley) Sayer. He married Nina Kay Dickerson on Jan. 17, 1970 in Shelbyville; they were married for 44 years.

He was employed with Navistar (IH) as a machinist and Union Steward for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement he went to work at Valle Vista Golf Club as superintendent. More recently at Links on the Bayou Golf Course in Alexandria, La. for last four years. Bob was a NASCAR fan, loved football, enjoyed golf, woodworking and hunting. He was a volunteer fireman and E.M.T. for the New Whiteland Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. Bob and his father owned stock cars and he drove the late model stock cars at Raceway Park in Indianapolis.He was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, the Murat Temple and most recently the Worshipful Master of Alexandria Lodge 398 in Alexandria, La. He was Past Master of the Sugar Creek Lodge 279 and Past Patron of Fairland OES 359.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Kay Sayer of Whiteland, three children, Beverly I. Cooper and Douglas R. (Jody) Sayer both of Whiteland and William A. (Sandi) Johnson of Carmel, three brothers, Thomas Sayer of Pendleton, Farley (Mary) Sayer of Columbus and Edward (Susan) Sayer of Fishers, three sisters, Rita (Butch) Lewis, Peggy (Gary) Hamble and Kathy (Wayne) King all of Fairland, eight grandchildren, Ashley (Danny) Tanner, Jacob, Madison and Nicholas Sayer, Chad Cooper, Macie, Lea and Collin Johnson and two great-grandchildren, Brieanna and Danika Tanner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mildred Sayer.
