Robert R. Woodward, “Woody”, age 95, of Phoenix, Arizona went to be with the Lord on June 24th, 2015. Robert was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on August 6th, 1919. He grew up in the small community of Little Rapids, Wisconsin and attended a one-room schoolhouse through grade school, and left Little Rapids for Lawrence University at age 16. Robert enlisted in the United States Navy on August 7, 1941 and primarily served as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Altamaha, a carrier performing Japanese submarine patrol operations in the South Pacific. Robert met his wife Edith in San Diego, California when the ship was in port. Robert and Edith married on September 2, 1944 in Tucson, Arizona and Robert was honorably discharged from the Navy on November 30, 1945. Robert received his second Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Chemistry at the University of Arizona. Robert and Edith welcomed Jeanne, their only child, into the world on April 5th, 1950. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1954 where Robert worked as a water quality chemist for the City of Phoenix until his retirement in November 1981. Edith pre-deceased Robert in 1982. Robert was an avid fan of all sports, but was a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. He attended his first game at Lambeau Field at the age of 4, and in his later years never left the house without wearing his Packer hat – unless he was wearing his U of A Wildcats hat.
